Description
One early May morning on the high trail along East Rock Park, just before sunrise, I could barely make out this Blackburian Warbler flitting through the treetops. Sibley says that this species “tends to stay in treetops” and that proved to be the case for this guy. Despite having to point the camera skyward, about thirty feet above me, I caught this fantastic liftoff a few moments after the sun broke through the clouds. I remember thinking to myself that if any bird could embody a sunrise, it would be the male Blackburnian Warbler in breeding plumage.
