Description
Oakland Lake is a spring-fed lake that usually does not freeze, due to the huge amount of water that flows through it – 2 million gallons a day! But during unusually cold winters, part of it may freeze for a few days, and all manner of waterfowl walk around on land or on the ice, rather than forage in the small open areas. I was lucky enough to catch this normally secretive male Wood Duck posing for me. I think you will find a rainbow of colors in his beautiful plumage and bright red eye and beak.
