This beautiful Banded-Pigeon hung around our backyard for one full day during August. Since they are typically skittish and take flight the moment we step outside, we figured something was wrong. We took a towel, approached it, and wrapped it around it gently – it did not fuss at all. We took it to our local animal rescue center and they discovered it had been shot on its belly! We were heartsick. The staff valiantly tried to save it, but it did not last over 3 days. Its partner has been hanging around ever since – we make sure there’s plenty of food/water for it as well as the other birds.
