Description
One of my all-time favorite birds, the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker has a chisel-like bill that bores holes into the inner bark of trees. We like to have them here because they eat many insects that are destructive to trees and bark. They really like the Sugar Maple trees here. We look forward to their arrival in the fall. The Sapsuckers also bring in other birds to the oozing sap like Yellow-rumped Warblers.
I just love this guy’s yellow belly. It’s the color of sulfur, so unique, he is!! On this day, he was enjoying a seed cake.
