Fox River Trail, South Elgin, IL, USA

Description

I met a fellow birder today on the Fox River Trail near South Elgin , IL .

He observed me using the Merlin App, using tjr sound ID feature.

He had a large telescope lens on his camera and asked if the Merlin App could help identify a bird he took a picture of on March 3. I sent it using the Merlin photo ID feature but it only reported ‘could not identify ‘ !

So I m sending this picture via the Feeder Watch from my HP to ask if an identification can be noted !

I mentioned to him that perhaps , this bird suffered an injury or a birth defect , etc, Can you help ?

Thank you, Rod Kitick

Hello, thank you for reaching out. This is a domestic duck, a Crested breed. They get this tuft of hair from a genetic mutation but were specifically bred to have this.
